Harnett County, NC
Isaac S. Williams served as Captain in the Home Guard in Harnett
County during 1861-1865. He was the son of Alexander Williams and
his first wife Charity Whitfield Smith, the daughter of Col. David
Smith, who wed Charity Whitfield.
Alexander's 2nd wife was Jemima Whitfield Middleton, daughter of
John Whitfield and Jemima Haywood. Alexander was the son of Isaac
Williams who wed Rachel Smith, 3rd child of Alexander Smith and
Elizabeth Whitfield. Isaac was the son of Joel Williams who came
into NC around 1750 and was the 1st husband of Jane Smith, daughter
of Samuel Smith and Edith Whitfield. Jane wed 2nd time Col.
Theophilus Hunter. Joel was the son of Isaac Williams of Roanoke
River, Mecklenburg Co., VA. His brothers were Col. Ben Williams,
born circa 1717 in Richmond, VA, John Williams of New Bern, and
Col. Joseph Williams of Duplin County, NC
