Obituary of Allen Compere Pipkin Allen Compere Pipkin, 75, of 415 Giles Street, Bel Air, MD died suddenly Tuesday, Feb 10. He was the husband of Leyland Chambers Pipkin to whom he was married 54 years. Born in Mena, he was the son of the late William Minor Pipkin and Jane Lyon Compere Pipkin. His early work as a civilian was primarily as a surveyor of lands. Following service in World War II, he continued with the U.S. Army in military and civilian capacities to complete thirty years of service. He was educated at the University of Arkansas and completed graduate studies at Drexel University, being awarded membership in Beta Phi Mu as a distinguished scholar. A former member of the Unitarian Fellowship of Bel Air, he lent support to the First Presbyterian Church and particularly to Rev. Richard Shreffler. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pipkin is survived by two sons, Allen Compere and Michael Bruce; two sisters, Emily Pipkin Gose of Austin, Tex. and Willie Mina Pipkin Bernardt of Dunedin, New Zealand; seven grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Funeral services were conducted from the Foster Funeral Home, Bel Air, Friday, Feb. 13 at 2 pm. Interment was in Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Col. Charles W. Bay, Barry Ellis, Keith Gilmore, Col. William Hoffmeyer, Charles Reed, Col. Russel Roberts, Dr. Proctor Sidewell, Edward Shattuck, French D. Poole and Arthur Woodward. Serving as active pallbearers were Carroll Porter, Frank Lohman, Dennis Bryant, Harry Sentman, Larry Stancill and Ralph B. Holloway.
