Beaumont Enterprise or Journal, c19 Jul 1983 Floyd Pipkin Crosses Bridge - by Susan Milliken Extracted it says Floyd Pipkin, age 89, had eaten breakfast of soft scrambled eggs, crisp bacon and grits at the Ramada Inn in the 200 block of Louisiana Street in Beaumont for 10 years. Floyd had crossed the drainage ditch to get to the Inn, so he jokingly asked the manager to put a foot board there to keep him from falling. The manager, Mel Wilson, had a foot bridge built and named it the Floyd H. Pipkin Bridge. Mr. Wilson explained, "Mr. Pipkin is such a fine man and everyone who knows him cares about him. The bridge was just a way to show him what he means to us." [Floyd is a descendant of William King Pipkin. William Philip Pipkin]
